the bright lights of space

i stood there and gazed
at the bright lights
of space
while aurora
danced
high overhead
i was just
a little boy
woken from sleep
to see dreams
i'd never see
in my bed

i stood there and gazed
at the bright lights
of space
'til a star
scratched a path
across the sky
and i said
to myself
could this
be a sign
sent to me
'cause i opened
my eyes?

i stood there and gazed
at the bright lights
of space
'til the moon
swept
my gravity
away
and i swore
to my soul
i could never go back
to the fool
that i was
yesterday

i stood there and gazed
at the stars
in your eyes
'til a halo
lit all 'round
your face
and i knew
in my heart
if heaven exists
baby
this must be
the place
