Sleepers Wake
There are so many twists and turns
speedbumps and potholes, on this road I ride
fortunately, poetry has the grace to soar beyond
go above the commonplace
find connection to the unknown sacred
calmly rests, somewhere deep inside
settles there, warm and comfortable
guides me through the darkest night
without light or compass
simple language, infinitely clear
speaks beyond thoughts and feelings
you know why you are here
now is the time, this is the place
others like you are awakening
love is calling, will you answer? which to choose, love or fear?

Wake-Up Call
Terror came
one sunny day
Four planes crashed
crashed into buildings
two siblings buckled
dust of devastation
Pentagon on fire
innocence died
our flag was lowered
the world weeps
freedom under attack
hunt elusive enemy
America unites
God Bless America
Old Glory waves
an endless sea
something has changed
most aren't sure
how to settle the score
onle life or a handful
for six thousand or more
something must change
killing must STOP
put an end to all war
must we kill for victory
like they did and others before?

Walden Interlude
In the quiet of the afternoon
little delicate ladies, stand up lithe and tall
all decked out, in white lace finery
adorned for nature's elegant ball
there against the silent lake
deep throated frogs, rhythm's ride
lopsided symphony, whimsical chanted reverie
which gently bows, at curtain call of eventide
amid darkling dusk, hawk descends
in graceful swoop and circling glide
above silhouetted, treetop reflections
sails high above, on outstretched wing
but oh the grace, of Queen Ann's Lace
bumped and jostled in the wind
nature's purest cloud of parasol, so elegant
appears quite dainty and well refined
yet breaks not a cluster of downy bough
just slyly bends, standing lithe and tall
and welcomes gaily, dark velvet cloak
flung from steed, of dashing night

Up from the Ashes
The New York cityscape was torn asunder
a peace/piece is missing from the skyline
four planes flew, filled with hate and innocent people
tore into the heart of our nation's conscience
burnt bodies and twisted steel girders
lie in the dust of Manhattan's grave
our country is wounded, shocked and numb
now anger and rage come to fill that empty place
will we attack all mosques...
intern all the Arabs, like the Japanese during World War Two?
Wait! there is hope on the horizon
at Buckingham Palace, for the changing of the guard
the British played "The Star Spangled Banner"
never in their history had they failed to play
"God save the Queen"
Europe and the NATO alliance are outraged
all over the world, countries flags, fly at half mast
the democratic way of life has been attacked
freedom has been challenged
a great galvanizing force has united in common cause
the world has come together, to mourn this loss
in this horrible moment, we are one
as Muslim community leaders, share our loss
Arab officials communicate sorrow
plans are being made to restart peace talks
between Israel and the Palestinians
with so much trampled, innocent blood
can it be that the heart of the world has awakend
will this tragedy be the moment...
we look back years later as the start of a brand new world?
a united community, with one heartbeat
there are dead to bury and holes to be dug
holes to be dug...isn't that the way all new skyscrapers begin?
only this time, let us build a structure built on peace
not the persistence of murdered memories

Beginning the Journey
Within the forest of my being
there are voices, calling out to me
snakes, birds, spiders, monkeys, rivers, rocks, and trees
come to your senses, leave them all behind
let us guide you far beyond, surrender and be blind
then a new kind of seeing, will unfold and be
another way of being, wild, savage, free
perhaps you will grow wings, hang upside down in trees
feel your spirit soaring, dancing on the weight of wings
wrapped inside a cape of darkness, silhouetted against the moon
The jungle and the forest, whisper wisdom unto me
our world a living planet, web of interdependency
so little seen, which eyes behold
there is so much more, than can be said
worlds beyond imagining
everything is sacred, without a beginning or end
all life vibrates, in life's resplendent tapestry
this paper bag, once used for shopping, started out a tree
ancient metals from earth's crust, have become this knife
a river of vibration, flows through you and me
we are love's imagination, sacred dancers flowing free
stumbling in the darkness, of our own divinity
towards our final dance of holy grace, with all eternity

Angel Eyes
An angel came to visit today
why she would not say
she sailed around my room
gliding, oh so gently
swooping down from the ceiling
almost touching the rug
we laughed and danced
and laughed some more
then she got quiet
looked at me intnetly
I could tell this was important
she asked me a question
"Would you like to see through angel eyes?"
my heart skipped a beat
"Oh, yes." I cried, "Oh, yes, yes, yes!"
she told me to trust and close both my eyes
envision within me a wonderful surprise
a new born sun, brighter than the strongest light
find it within, this holy sight,
it was only a pinprick in a curtain of darkness
but that tiny light, soon became a flame
brighter than sunlight to a sleepy eye's awakening
seemed to know me and call my name
flooded I was with this wonderful light
like a lightbulb that glows internally bright
illumined and radiant, beyond words to say
then a moment later it had all gone away
I openend my eyes, to thank my new friend
not a blush of a wing, with all these kisses to send
then quielty a voice came from inside
I AM no longer out there, within you , I reside
wherever you look, now there will I be
and through angel eyes, you will see, as I see
